The Sugared Game by K. J. Charles

The Sugared Game is an adventure spy novel set in 1920s London and m/m romance. Will Darling is the protagonist. I haven't read romances all that often before recently, and found that Will's romance with his lover, Kim, was more tumultuous than I would have liked. Their relationship is such that everything works easily when they are facing down danger or in bed together but is difficult at any other time. 

A significant subplot involves Will's best friend, Maisie Jones, starting a fashion design business with Phoebe Stevens-Prince. Phoebe is a character that reminds a great deal of fast-talking dames from black and white movies. Maisie is a loyal friend and a curvy woman who believes that clothes should be designed to flatter the body they are made for rather than altering bodies to fit a style. I liked this subplot a lot. 

Collins' narration continues to be a delight. 

There is one book left in the series. I'm on the library's waiting list for it. Libraries are great.
